How We Chose These Plant Subscriptions
We started from a wide list of US plant, succulent, air plant and plant-plus-pot subscriptions and kept only services with a live sign-up or plan page we could read ourselves on October 18, 2026. For each one we recorded, from the service’s own pages: what arrives in each box, how billing works, whether you can skip or cancel, any stated shipping limits, and any stated guarantee for plants that arrive damaged. A service that only appeared in third-party roundups, with no plan page of its own, was not included. Left out: Horti, whose own page says it closed on May 31, 2025 and is not accepting new orders, and Bloombox Club, whose storefront showed a “We’re repotting” holding page. We do not order, receive or test subscription boxes. Author: Michael Probert.

1 plant a month in a ceramic planter (per The Sill) · Medium plants in 6″ grow pots set in 6″–7″ ceramic planters · Classic or Pet-Friendly · Free shipping on subscription boxes · Price band: $25–75 per monthly box
The Sill pairs each month’s plant with a ceramic planter, so each plant arrives ready to display. Per The Sill, you pay for the first box up front and are then billed monthly, and you can switch planter colors, skip a month, gift a month, or pause, reschedule or cancel from your account. The Pet-Friendly option is described by The Sill as a new non-toxic houseplant each month. The product page checks your ZIP code before checkout, so confirm delivery to your address there.
Pros: Planter included every month; Classic and Pet-Friendly tracks; skip, pause or cancel from your account; free shipping on subscription boxes. Cons: First box is paid up front; delivery depends on your ZIP code.
Plant In The Box — Best for Pet Owners and Rare Plants
Bloomer Box (easy-care), Fur Friendly Box (dog- and cat-safe, per the service) or Majestic Marvels (rare) · 1 mystery plant in a nursery pot monthly (small; small-to-medium for Majestic Marvels), or quarterly bundles of 3–4 plants · Free shipping · Arrive Safe Guarantee · Price band: $25–75 per monthly box; $75–150 per quarterly bundle
Plant In The Box splits its monthly boxes by what you want to grow: the Bloomer Box for easy-care plants, the Fur Friendly Box, which the service says contains one dog- and cat-safe plant each month, and Majestic Marvels for one small-to-medium rare or hard-to-find plant. If you would rather get several plants at once, the quarterly bundles send four plants (three for Majestic Marvels) every three months. Per the service, every subscription delivery ships free, includes virtual care instructions, and is covered by its Arrive Safe Guarantee.
Pros: Separate pet-safe and rare-plant tracks; monthly or quarterly pace; free shipping on every delivery; prepaid 6- and 12-month gift options. Cons: Bloomer and Fur Friendly boxes are one small plant, and Majestic Marvels is one small-to-medium plant (per Plant In The Box); plants are a surprise, chosen from current nursery availability.

Monthly succulent shipment; the club page says members can collect 60 unique plants in a year · Optional winter heat pack · Skip or cancel through your account · Ships the first week of the month · Price band: $25–75 per month
The Succulent Source’s club page lists the succulents it has sent so far, which lets you see the kind of varieties to expect before you join, and it says members who stay a full year can collect 60 unique plants. Per the service, succulents ship only in the first week of the month, so you need to sign up by the last day of the previous month to get that month’s box. Pros: Past boxes listed on the club page; many unique plants over a year; skip or cancel online; heat-pack option. Cons: Fixed first-week ship date; the service says it is not responsible for frozen plants.

Some months may include limited-edition or themed plantings.

How to Choose a Plant Subscription
Check the billing unit before you compare bands
The bands above are not like-for-like. Most services bill per monthly box, Lively Root bills per quarterly delivery, and several offer prepaid 3-, 6- or 12-month terms that are charged once. Succulents Box adds shipping to every box, while most of the others say subscription shipping is free. Compare what one year would cost under the plan you would actually choose.
Read the cancellation rule
Most services on this list say you can skip, pause or cancel at any time from your account. Two exceptions are worth knowing: Lively Root requires two deliveries before you can cancel, and Mountain Crest Gardens says a cancellation made after a shipment has gone out takes effect the following month.
Check where it ships and plan for cold weather
House Plant Box ships within the continental US, and Mountain Crest Gardens charges extra for Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. The Sill checks your ZIP code on its product page. For winter deliveries, several services offer heat packs (The Succulent Source, Succulents Box, eFloral), and The Succulent Source says it is not responsible for frozen plants, so add one if your area gets cold.
If you have pets
Plant In The Box (Fur Friendly Box) and The Sill (Pet-Friendly option) both offer tracks they describe as pet-safe or non-toxic, and Lively Root has a separate Pet Friendly subscription. Lively Root says its standard Easy Care plan is not guaranteed pet-safe. Whatever arrives, look up each plant by its name on a veterinary toxicity list before placing it where pets can reach it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are plant subscription boxes worth it?
They suit people who enjoy a surprise and want a collection to grow steadily without shopping for each plant. The trade-off is choice: on most plans above, the service picks the plant. If you already know which plants you want, buying them individually gives you more control.
Can I choose which plant I get each month?
Usually not. The services above choose the plant, though several let you pick a track, such as pet-friendly, rare or easy-care (Plant In The Box, The Sill), a box size (Succulents Box), or a tier (Air Plant Design Studio). eFloral says you can skip a month if you would prefer a different plant.
What happens if a plant arrives damaged?
It depends on the service. House Plant Box and Mountain Crest Gardens state 30-day guarantees, eFloral says it replaces a plant that arrives damaged or does not thrive within 30 days when you send a photo, and Plant In The Box covers subscription deliveries with its Arrive Safe Guarantee. Read the guarantee terms on the service’s site before you subscribe, and take a photo of the box and plant when it arrives.
Which plant subscription box is best as a gift?
For a gift, look for prepaid terms that are charged once and do not renew. The Plant Club by My Garden Box offers 3-, 6- and 12-month prepay, Succulents Box gift subscriptions are a one-time charge, and Plant In The Box offers prepaid 6- and 12-month options. The Sill also lets subscribers gift a month to a friend.
